HR
Best Value
"Challenge,
Compare, Consult and Compete" - Confused?
At
best - "best value" is a highly effective way to
continually review services offered through the public sector
to ensure continual improvement and efficiency. If best value
is working continually the services delivered to our communities
in the UK will be continually be operating at their optimum.
That is the theory !
At
worst - "best value" becomes another bureaucratic
chore which is regarded with as much interest as good house
keeping. Seen as a "hygiene" issue best value is
often carried out with little vision for the added value it
can bring to an organisation, or value to customers.
And
so beleaguered public servants set about "achieving"
best value. Its achievability will always elude those seeking
it.
HR
Results is presently working with a number of public bodies
bringing a fresh approach to Best Value within HR.
By
Identifying organisation - specific "measurables"
for HR performance, we unearth a number of hidden gems which
really add value to the organisational effectiveness. Also
we uproot a number of hidden and unresolved performance issues
which can easily be addressed to improve customer service
and value within the organisation.
Undertaking
Best Values reviews of HR has been an enlightening experience
for those we are currently working with. For the first time
they have been afforded the "space" to examine what
it is that they need to do in order to add value to the organisations
activities and services to public. This process is very enabling
for both the HR professionals we are working with as well
as their internal customers.

Data
Protection - from yawn to eyebrow raiser !
Most
eyes glaze over when it comes to Data Protection, however
for a number of our clients Data Protection is currently a
hot topic for their business.
Since
October 2001, under the Data Protection Act 1998 ( DPA) ,
employees have a right to access data about themselves that
is held by their employer.
Such
requests are often met with consternation by the employer.
Employees are more than ever aware of their rights through
much publicised test cases at the employment tribunal. Equally
by accessing their files employees can fish for information
prior to making an application to a tribunal against their
employer.
On
the face of it this can seem concerning for employers. HR
Results have been actively working to put the records straight
- literally. We have been advising employers on ways in which
they can ensure that they can respond to the legal changes
responsibly as well as giving them an insight into ways to
make sue that their employees don't hold all the cards.
DPA
- Monitoring at Work
The
number of disciplinary cases in relation to "on-line
misconduct" is on the increase and represents a serious
people management problem for business on line.
Our
clients are seeking help from HR Results in order to protect
themselves and their employees from the heat of redressing
internet abuse.
Policies
with "teeth" and communication strategies are part
of the process for addressing this recurring issue, freeing
up valuable time for our clients to focus on their core business.

Employment
Bill 2003
It
may have escaped your attention (unless you are highly attuned
to the forum of employment law) that April 2003 heralded the
much debated Employment Bill.
The
Employment Bill 2003 effects employers in the fundamental
way in which they manage their workforce. The changes which
came about under this law affect employees contracts, terms
and conditions, policies and procedures and most importantly
management practice within your business.
The
Employment Bill brought changes that affect:
Employer
grievance and disciplinary procedures - making them a statutory
requirement.
- Dispute
resolution in the workplace.
- Paid
and unpaid maternity leave.
- Paternity
leave for working fathers.
- Union
learning representatives.
- Flexible
working practices.
Our astute clients have benefited from HR Results early warning
system and were able to prepare and get a step ahead of these
law changes in plenty of time.
